I couldn't find the money I refunded today

A friend sent me money last week but Paypal said that it was being held so we thought of another route. Today, I refunded the money to my friend's bank but it has been hours since and the money didn't make it to my friend's bank account yet. Could someone explain to me what's happening? I tracked my activities and my recent transaction was marked "refunded".
