Hey guys. So i bought somehting from nike in the value of 169,99 but unfortunately I didn’t have enough money on my bank account at that time, and then nike refunded me 10 euros for no reason, and my balance on paypal was negative 159,99€, so my friend sent me 160 euros to pay for the sneakers and restore the balance, but then today i was charged on my bank account 169,99€, when i already restored the balance of the paypal and paid the sneakers

PayPal makes 2 or 3 attempts to debit your bank if it is insufficient even if you zero’d your PayPal balance or the seller issued a refund in the mean time.

Either top up your bank account so PayPal can debit the money or wait for the attempts to exhaust and PayPal taps your back up card and you’ll end up with an extra €169.99 in your PayPal balance to pay back your friend.

Was this an eCheck payment? Click the transaction in your PayPal activity and it will say if it is in the ‘paid by’ section.

Kudos & Solved are greatly appreciated. 🙂

Look, when your bank account does not have enough money for a payment, PayPal will try your bank account again in a few days. This is automatic. That is why you are charged again! PayPal do not care if you restored the negative balance. They also don’t care if the seller issued a refund to try to restore your negative balance. PayPal must get the money from your bank! That’s how bank payments operate in PayPal.

Because PayPal will try your bank account again it is important to top up your bank account, instead of restoring the negative balance or you will be charged twice.

But since you restored the balance already, and PayPal charged you again, depending if PayPal was able to debit that money the second time, the money will be deposited in your PayPal balance as a positive balance. If not, PayPal debits your back up card and make your PayPal balance +€169.00.
