What happens to the pending payment if it's not accepted?

I bought an item on kmart.com and used PayPal as one of the offered there payment options, I received the confirmation from PayPal that my money had been sent and pending now. But kmart didn't complete the order and sent me back to the payment options page, like I didn't pay yet. I don't want to pay again if my money had been sent already. I guess, something went wrong. Can anyone tell me what happens to the pending order if it's not being accepted? Will I get a money refund on my bank account? or PayPal credit? Or how can I cancel this payment?

Thanks.

As I mentioned in a previous post, there was no actual money deducted from my bank account. Check yours. I'm pretty sure it's the same situation. The way it works is that PayPal sends a notice to the retailer that there is a payment waiting for them to claim for an order. If the retailer doesn't have an order for that payment, they (shouldn't) claim it, therefore no actual money changes hands. After a period of time, the unclaimed payment should drop off your history page. Mine's been sitting there for 9 days now, and still no money has been taken from my bank account, so no money is being held "hostage". It's simply a payment notification that says "Pending", and my guess is that it will sit there for 30 days before dropping off.
