Trying to pay with listed credit card but PayPal is not listing it.

I have been using the same credit card with PayPal forever to pay for all my eBay transactions with no problem.  Today I bought an item on eBay, but PayPal does not list my credit card as an option for payment.  PayPal only gives me two options:

1) pay with an echeck directly drawn on my bank account or

2) PayPal asks me to list a NEW credit card for payment.

Why can't I use the same card I use to transact all my business?  I have tried 4 or 5 times to pay with PayPal and my credit card is NEVER an option.  Why?

Hi bozworth99,

There are a few possibilities that might explain this:

1. There are funds in your PayPal balance that would be sufficient to cover the whole transaction.  In that case, try withdrawing the funds before making the purchase.

2. The merchant does not accept the particular type of card you are trying to use.  This is extremely rare and usually only affects MasterCard or American Express.

3. The security system has decided to block that card as an option.  The security system uses complex statistical models to identify extraordinary transaction patterns.  In some situations, it may decide to block a payment method or transaction to protect the account if it detects unusual activity.

I hope that helps you narrow down what the problem might be.  You may need to contact Customer Service to find out for sure.
