eCheque?

Hi,

I'm just looking for some information regarding a recent purchase I made on eBay. The seller has contacted me to say that the payment has been sent as an eCheque and that he'll need to wait until that clears to send the item. I had no idea what this meant as I've literally bought hundreds of items from eBay and this has never happened once. I looked around online as to why this would happen and for the most part it was saying insufficient funds.....now this is completely crazy as my Paypal balance alone had over three times more than what the payment actually was let alone the funds in my bank account, so why has this happened? I'm very angry about it as I ordered the item to be a birthday present for June 15th and now they're saying the payment won't even clear until the 17th meaning it won't be here for it. Is there a way I can cancel this and reorder and make sure that it's taken from the balance rather than this ridiculous eCheque method? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

An echeque is normally generated when you have your bank account linked to your paypal account but do not have a back up card linked to paypal as well OR that card needs updating.

This is because normally when you fund payments from your bank account it takes 5-7 days to get to paypal so paypal CREDIT the seller in advance for you and they take the wait for the funds to transfer.

This is done so you get your item more quickly. BUT they only take this risk if you have a back up card linked to paypal as well, if you do not then its you that has to take the wait as in .....echeque.

As to why the funds in your paypal balance were not used it could be >>

1. They were not in the same currency as the person you were paying accepts.

2. You were using pay after delivery or similar.

3. The funds were pending and not cleared for use in your balance.

If you have had any recent denied payments from a debit or credit card you might have on your account this can temporarily remove the instant payment feature and bank transfers will be initiated as eCheques for a small period of time until you've made more successful purchases.

It's really just a way for PayPal to avoid any risk to themselves by up fronting any payments, as soon as they can see that there is no risk the instant payment option via bank will re-appear.

Everything kernowlass has said is also 100% accurate, just thought I would add my own experience too.
