I want to set up recurring payments for my customer. I click on the icon to take me to the page but the option to set up new is greyed out? Is there any way I can set this up without creating a button. I personally pay a recurring payment every month, without clicking buttons, so I know it can be done. Help!

Hey Klochrie,
Welcome to the Community! It can be quite confusing when trying to set up recurring payments on your PayPal account.
You can set up recurring billing on your website using PayPal Express Checkout and Website Payments Pro. Both PayPal Express Checkout and Websites Payments Pro require a developer with API programming ability.
If you offer PayPal Express Checkout and recurring payments, customers can pay with their PayPal account. If you offer both Websites Payments Pro and recurring payments, your customers can pay without a PayPal account, using their debit or credit card.
Here's where to find directions on how to integrate PayPal Express Checkout and Website Payments Pro with your website:
- Go to www.paypal.com/uk and log in to your account.
- Click Merchant Services.
- Under 'API solutions', click Express Checkout.
- You are redirected to 'Introducing Express Checkout'.
- Click Getting Started.
Alternatively, for a quick and simple way to accept subscription type payments on your website, you can create a 'Subscribe' button. You can use the 'Subscribe' button to invoice customers on a regular basis, charge membership fees or offer subscription services. We provide the HTML code which you copy and paste into your website's code.
Here's how to create a subscriptions button:
- Go to www.paypal.com/uk and log in to your account.
- Click Profile.
- Select My selling preferences.
- Beside 'PayPal buttons', click Update.
- Under 'Related Items', choose Create new button.
- Choose your button type.
- Enter your button information and click Create Button.
- Click 'Select Code' to select the HTML button code.
- Copy and Paste the HTML code into your HTML code.
The main differences between a subscription and recurring billing are:
- Recurring Payments integrate with PayPal via APIs; Subscriptions integrate with PayPal via HTML
- Recurring Payments allows your customers to checkout at cart level with multiple items. Subscriptions allow your buyers to complete their purchase for one item or service at a time
- Recurring Payments support merchant management including limited modification, suspension / reactivation and billing on outstanding amount
I hope this information helps to answer your queries.
Please let us know if we can help with anything in future.
David.
