HI,
I have created a button for my website.
I have also set the VAT % in my profile.
When I click the buy button the VAT is not being added to the total??? I thought the process would add on the correct amount of VAT so that my clients can see exactly how much they have to pay.
I have considered adding the amount of VAT to the price during the creation of the button but im not 100% sure that my customers will be charged again for VAT once in paypal.
I suppose Im just a little confused about how Paypal handles VAT on purchases.
Any advice would be helpful.

Hi There, PayPal do not charge you guys VAT nor do we insist that you charge VAT on your transactions. As the seller and merchant it is your responsibility to place the necessary charges and taxes. In saying that, you should be able to integrate VAT in to your Payment flow during the checkout. Please go to your “Selling Preferences” in “Profile”, you should have an option there to add VAT charges to your site. Good luck.

Hi
I'm having the same problem. I'm just using a simple button generated with website payments standard, so no API stuff. My profile is set up to add VAT at 20%. Yet the addition of the tax doesn't happen. What do I need to do?

Hay there, as VAT is applicable only to certain countries. You will have to access your account, so that we can confirm that you are a UK customer. Following that the option for VAT should appear. Hope that helps.

Same problem here, have VAT set at 20% in my profile, yet when testing the shopping cart and payment process on the my companies new site prior to launch, the VAT does not appear in the shopping cart view as its suppose to for legal reasons. Paypal is legally liable for the VAT no appearing and all financial detriment (costs) we incur as a result of their systems failures.
I know this as i am a member of consumer action group so i know the law about this. So paypal sort it or i'll be sending you a bill for the time i have spent trying to figure this out, only to find its your own system at fault. Oh and while your sorting that out sort out your website too, as it is currently sooooooo slowwwwww.
Oh and yes i am a UK account customer and a UK business.

Ok i have Vat Activated (just like it always was) and have it applied to postage - But guess what, no Vat is added to the amount in the shopping cart or check out proces. It should automatically be applied to the shopping cart and checkout process if active, so come on paypal or do you seriously expect me and other to go through thousands of products adding VAT to the price on our websites one by one and then invoicing you for the time we spent doing it?
My going rate is £100 an hour and i bet it will take the best part of a week for me to re do all the prices considering i would also have to apply VAT to the RRP shown on the website too. I earn £100 an Hour selling products via phone to my customers, so if i can not be on the phone making calls as a result of having to redo the prices on the site to being VAT inclusive, then you'll be facing an invoice of close to £4,000.

Hey Barry, You may not insist on us charging VAT but our government does! HMRC are very strict on this and as it has been pointed out in past posts we are breaking the law. If you want an international customer base then you should cater for our countries tax requirments. Please make Paypal easier to use in the UK! All we want is our VAT to show in the payments summary, that must be so easy for you guys to implement. Also could do with one shipping charge per cart option. My customers buy multiple items but I only charge one delivery charge. At the moment if my customers add 2 different sized items they get charged for 2 deliveries. You have options for different price ranges in shipping, so how about an option for quantities?
You would generate far more income if you made it easier for uk businesses to use you. I have tried for the last 3 years to start taking payments via PP but i give up as it causes so many problems. There must be 100's of people like me!
