HI,
I have created a button for my website.
I have also set the VAT % in my profile.
When I click the buy button the VAT is not being added to the total??? I thought the process would add on the correct amount of VAT so that my clients can see exactly how much they have to pay.
I have considered adding the amount of VAT to the price during the creation of the button but im not 100% sure that my customers will be charged again for VAT once in paypal.
I suppose Im just a little confused about how Paypal handles VAT on purchases.
Any advice would be helpful.

Still no news? This is costing us days of lost service!
This could really do with resolving, either someone at Paypal saying it requires hiring someone capable of integrating their API to include this function (at least then we'd know we were wasting time trying to get the VAT working through the system we all seem to be struggling with), or that it is something that they do not currently provide a service for (in which case, what the **bleep** is this VAT tick box option they're providing?).
The replies from Barry earlier in the thread seem to have missed the point somewhat!
Please, let us know PayPal!

Certainly with my setup if you have VAT in your profile it should be added... But does so only when you are in the checkout the last thing before you buyer clicks "make payment" you may not see this as PayPal will not let you log into your own account to purchase your own things.... So if you have a friend who can log into your site and get to the checkout to confirm all is well

Firstly paypal is a unique beast...
I have a website in Turkey which collects VAT simply by ticking the vat box on the button creation stage, its that simple. However I chose to close that account as paypal an electronic service, can not link my UK and Turkish e-mails for me to hold funds in UK.
So today I registered a UK copy of my sites buttons uploaded them and Yes you guessed it No VAT box, on the Button creation page , so now my amended site is not charging vat.
Which is the developed market UK or Turkey?????
Clowns at paypal suggest they don't know about non UK accounts.
No help at all
for the fees they take, service is AWFUL

Crazy - I have done the following:
* Set-up VAT rate of 20%
* Adding my VAT number to my business profile
* Created Subscription button for the site
Testing the button (my account, and someone elses, so that I can check the next stage etc), and NO VAT is being charged... What's more, NO VAT NUMBER is shown to the buyer - not sure this is even legal under UK law?
Called Paypal - asked to fill out a form for support... Guys I will just have to wait!
Paypal, why have NO staff members posted a solution on this thread that spanws 2011 to 2012? (2013 now i posted here!).

Perhaps this will help. Here is a quick tutorial on how to manage tax with standard buttons:
If you need to add tax to the button during the button creation, you can do it in the advanced variables. I'm attaching a screenshot pointing to the right option.
I hope this helps.

My God, finally a solution to this UK VAT problem! (i.e. VAT amount not showing nor being added on payment pages)
Thank you to 'PP_MTS_MichaelL' for posting the advice (and the screenshot) above, but it's maddenning that so many people had been pulling their hair out trying to find this simple answer!
It's a very simple solution/config variable that fixes it, but PLEASE PLEASE, why not just add a note on the' payment button config pages' explaining how to add a VAT rate!!!!?
So many people (me included), assumed that setting the UK VAT rate in our 'selling preferences' would automatically add vat to our producs at checkout.
Heyho - at least I can now fix my payment buttons.
Thanks

Well its been a while since i last posted in this thread. But thought i would let you guys know that when using Magento as your ecormmerce software, the VAT des appear on the PayPal page once you have VAT set up via Magentos admin panel - I know you can't just change to a new ecommerce software as i know it involves a lot of work and simply isn't possible to some of you. But it does show the issue is not necessary at PayPals end and your eCommerce software developer should be asked to look into it..
