Recurring payments all setup, but the client wants subscribers to be sent an email 14 days before payment is due to be taken. That way people can cancel if they wish. Can this be done?

Not with Payments Standard as there are no features or options available to do what you have in mind. It may be possible with Payments Pro, some custom API work and/or using a Cron Job. Suggest searching thru the Developer Form for some hints:
