Notification of Payment Received from address changed to service 'at' paypal.com

Some time between 22:25 GMT on Tuesday January 24th and 01:14 GMT on Wednesday 25th January the PayPal notifications started to show as being from service 'at' paypal.com rather than the customers actual PayPal address.

Email history showing te change between the 24th and 25th

This causes an extra step for us when processing the email and makes it more dificult to automatically digest emails for our customer database.

Does anyone know if:

  1. This change was intentional?
  2. How the previous behavior can be restored?

Do other soft product reatailers process orders by clicking "reply" when a PayPal payment notification arrives to provide the customer with fulfillment details?

Thanks,

Antony.

This new adddress changed is causing problems for our back end as well!

All I could find on it was this: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1855026

This simple change is going to cause a massive re-organization of our mail order operations. I'd like to see it reversed (or be given the option to reverse it) as well.

This is what I got back when I contacted PayPal via the contact us web form:

"Thank you for contacting PayPal regarding e-mail notification.

E-mail notifications regarding payments should always have been sent to you from PayPal with the [service 'at' paypal.com] e-mail address. If you were receiving them under different e-mail addresses this is something that should not have been happening and has been fixed.

It is my pleasure to assist you. Thank you for choosing PayPal."

We are now manually picking the address from the email body.

The automated processes will need to parse the subject line.

If the customers email could be in the "reply to" or return path email headers that would be something.

Thanks,

Antony.

We were affected by this also as we had been using an Automated reply email.  We are on a Mac and have created an AppleScript to extract the buyers email address from the incoming email message and generate an automated outgoing email to that address.  This script is run by Mail Rules.  Details here if you are a Mac user and would like the code: http://bee-software.net/blog/handling-changes-to-paypal-notification-of-payment-received-emails/

Hi,

I am experiencing the same problems and appear to be getting the same message by phone and email regarding this. It would appear that papal has done this intentionally.

I have found a thread on the ebay forum site regarding the email problem, but at present can't verify if this can be confirmed.

Papal are looking at this, but nothing can be done until Tuesday?

I think that the only solution is those effected do complain directly to papal and possible they will back track, otherwise the contact, tracking and back tracking sales and dispatch will be a night mare.

Do you know if this happened at the same time "ebay" introduced the posting label facility?

Regards

Russell

The same issue here. Very annoying, we have automatic Replay rule and now all of these emails go back to PayPal.

I emailed PayPal support and waiting for their asnwer.

Hello,

For us the emails are back to showing the users email address. This started happening sometime between midnight and 9am GMT today.
