I have recently posted on an auction website to sell a phone. Today I received an email from someone wishing to but the phone, great! Until he proceeds to tell me that it needs to be posted to Africa but he will pay over the amount for postage. I give him my paypal email address and he emails back to tell him that the money has been transferred and the receipt has been sent. He tells me to check my spam or junk mail just in case the email has went there. Now I am 75% sure that my paypal emails go straight to my normal email file. The email is in my junk file and it tells me that the payment has been approved and if I send the tracker number from the Royal Mail to confirm that the item has been sent, only then will the transfer be confirmed and the money be placed in my account.
This is my first time using paypal for a sale, but this doesn't sound right.
Any opinions or suggestions will be greatly appreciated

THIS IS A SCAM.
You will get/got a "fake" email that looks as though it is from paypal.....it isn't.
It will say the buyer has paid ...you won't have been paid.
They will tell you that the payment is released when you provide paypal with a tracking/shipping number......this won't happen.
They threaten legal action...have a laugh at that one and ignore it as its rubbish.
Most scams originate from Nigeria and people there cannot even own a paypal account.
Paypal NEVER tell you to send trackable, they advise it for seller protection etc but it is not compulsory.
Paypal NEVER tell you to send an item before the payment is showing in your paypal account.
Delete any emails and ignore the scammers.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.

ALSO!!
If you receive ANY links in your emails (you may or may not, we did!) which lead you to paypal website where you need to log in............DON'T............. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES LOG INTO PAYPAL FROM A LINK IN AN EMAIL!!!!!!!!.
Scammers do it all the time, its called phishing, the linked website is fake! FAKE!!!!!! if you enter your login credentials on these fake sites then the scammers have just STOLEN YOUR USERNAME AND PASSWORD AND PROBABLY YOUR PAYPAL MONEY!!!!!! if you did this and didn't realise until now CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD IMMEDIATELY!!! AND CHECK YOUR ACCOUNT DETAILS AND TRANSACTIONS!!!
Vigilance is KEY!!
good luck!
