Hi everyone ... Would somebody be kind enough to share their thoughts on this matter ... I accepted an offer on Ebay for my car ... I stated cash on collection but they sent me funds through paypal. I immediatly refunded the Money and they contacted me stating that they are getting a courier to collect and take it to the shipping port ?? ..
I contacted Ebay for advice and they reassured me that aslong as i withdraw the funds before the vehicle is collected then the transaction cant be reversed ... The buyer rang me but it was very difficult to communicate with them as there English was terrible and it was a really bad line 😞 ..
Normally I would walk away but I hadnt had much interest in the vehicle so I agreed to accept the payment through paypal as a "friends and familey" payment ... The cash has now cleared into my bank and they are arranging to have the vehicle collected ....
Is there any way at all that this could be some sort of scam and that when the car has gone the money will get called back ?? Iv been reading about these chargebacks ?? Ebay say it should be irreversable onece its in my bank ...
Sorry for the long post ! ... Any help and advie would be greatly appreciated .... Chris

Sorry but I think you have been given bad advice.
Agreed they can't file a paypal dispute if they paid via friends / family OR for a car BUT if they funded their paypal payment via a credit card they CAN DO A CHARGEBACK.
If the card issuer found in favour of their buyer then you would have to refund them PLUS the card issuers fee and if you don't paypal will have to and they will chase you for the funds to pay them back again.
DO NOT RISK IT. CASH ON COLLECTION ONLY.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.

This is what I thought to ! ... Is there a way I can find out if they paid with a credit card ? .. They didnt send any fees so was thinking they must already have a paypal balance ? ... I got the cash in my bank now 😞 ... And why would they want a crappy motor any way ?

No you can't tell.
And with some countries the fees are paid by the sender with friends / family and not the receiver as happens when you buy something.
Depends what country he is in but to be fair I don't know all other countries policies on that.

You certainly can but they normally will just say that you are covered as there is no buyer protection for motor vehilcles but they probably won't mention chargebacks but you can ask them.
BUT be careful as you risk your account being suspended by accepting a friends / family payment for a sale, as they see that as you evading paying your paypal fee.
I would have just refunded the buyer in the first place and said cash on collection only and not budged.

Kudos / Solution appreciated.
