Why would someone ask me to send a screenshot of my PayPal transaction sending them money ?

To scam you, so don’t do it. They’ll somehow pretend to be you and have customer service open a fraudulent dispute and close it so you can’t or have difficulty in lodging a dispute. Congrats on having your scamdar on and asking someone. 👍

What happens if you DONT send the screenshot?
Can you message the paypal account that they had you send $$ to and get them to cancel? I can't cancel on my end.
The $$ has NOT come out of my bank account. Is the account sent to even real?
So many questions!

If there's any issue with the payment, PayPal protection policy covers the payment and help you with the refund if certain requirements meet. You can find the information about PayPal Buyer Protection policy here.
You can report the issue with the payment in the resolution center of your PayPal account. If you're unable to settle the dispute with the merchant, you can escalate the dispute, PayPal will review it and decide the outcome. Steps to open a dispute towards a payment can be found here.
