Hello community! I read the protocol in such a situation but wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything.
A couple hours ago I received an email that my payment for an iPhone went through in the States today (12 Jan 2024) through an old paypal account I have and can't access because the phone number attached to it is not in my possession anymore.
I have forwarded this email to the phishing email account for paypal, deleted it from my account, and will contact the only American bank account to monitor the income. I'm not sure which bank accounts are attached to the account at this point, the cards would have expired in any case (I don't attach directly to any banks). Otherwise, unfortunately due to the day and time, I cannot call or chat with any paypal employees at the moment.
Should I do anything else at this point or is there anything to look out for? I previewed the payment and there was no discernable information from myself listed in the receipt but I did not open it and no greeting or links or requests for payments were listed.
Kind regards,
gemmachabs

If its a spoof then NEVER USE ANY LINK OR ANY PHONE NUMBER.
Firstly if the email/text addressed you as ''Dear Member'' / ''Customer'' / ''Client'' OR your ''email address'' then that confirms its a spoof as paypal would address you by your full name eg Dear John Smith.
Secondly if there was a link OR attachment in that email/text to ''cancel'' any transaction or ''confirm'' any details then again it would be a spoof.
Also if they ask you to call the number in the email then it would be fake paypal agents trying to scam you for money to 'fix' something.
If there was a problem with your account Paypal would not ask you to click on an unsafe link in an email / download an attachment OR phone them on a number in an email, they would direct you to log in normally and go to the resolution or the message centre for more information.
