Scammed: "Fake" tracking number and extending the resolution date

Over a month ago I bought an item from a seller on Gumtree (yes, lesson learned). I paid the seller through pay pal, and right after that communication was rather fishy. Anyway, two days later I got a tracking number (TnT Fedex). However, the item was never delivered to me but rather to some man in a totally different city.

I asked a Fedex rep about it, and they confirmed that the item was sent by their regular customer (a medical company) to a hospital, but they cannot tell me anything else as the package wasn't sent to me. I opened a claim, sent screenshots showing the conversation with the rep (saying the tracking number isn't "fake", but the parcel wasn't sent by a private individual and not to me). The seller provided the same tracking number a few hours before their deadline.

Now, it's been nearly a month, PayPal extended the expected resolution date four times now and I'm worried they simply won't care about my proof. I tried contacting customer service but they just said the case is ongoing so they can't tell me much else. Is there any chance they'll resolve the claim in my favour? Has anyone had a similar experience?
