Hi all. I received a notification from PayPal that someone sent me an invoice to make a payment of USD 500 for purchasing a anti virus software which I didn't make. Could I just leave it like that with out paying or how do I cancel or report this?

I got a notification in my paypal account that I got request from heather [removed] saying that there detected some suspicious unlawful activity with my account I need pay $499 with a number to cancel it I just wanted to know this a scam

Thank you for your post and welcome to the community! The invoice you received is a fraudulent invoice. You should be able to cancel it directly within your PayPal account. If you do not see the option to do so, it can be safely ignored. Please do not call the number in the description of the invoice, as it will very likely be a fraudster who will try to gain sensitive information in an attempt to conduct fraud.

What is this? Fraud? What do I need to do?

Received an email this morning claiming i had sent an a payment of 589 GBP to a Marta [removed] at Bitdefender. I still have 3 years left on my Bitdefender account. Anyway, i check my PP account and sure enough there is a pending transaction, which i promptly cancelled. A major concern for me is that PP forwarded the message to me via email. Hack somewhere? Only PP uses small letters for the start of my name (that's how i registered it) so the forwarded message was from PP.

Well, i just ran a security check on Google Chrome and it seems my BitDefender account password may have been compromised, so i changed it. Hopefully that will fix the problem. If you have a BitDefender account i suggest you change your password too.

BitDefender is the antivirus i use. I'd run the Chrome security test anyway, it could show your PayPal account password has been hacked. I would guess once you click on cancel there will be no charge to your account.
