this company wants me to pay them with paypal as a friend to avoid fees? is this a scam?

i guess my title is the whole question, should i avoid this company even if theyre a big company with a big warehouse and a bunch of clients? it seems so weird.

they put it in big bold underlined letters in their email like all aggressive!

Thank you for your post and welcome to the community! Thank you also for your caution regarding paying a seller who is asking you to pay as a friend.

 

If a merchant is asking you to pay as a friend, they are, either intentionally or unintentionally, doing a couple of things. First, they are asking you to cooperate in a violation of the PayPal User Agreement, likely to avoid the fees that a seller is expected to pay for receiving Goods and Services payments. Second, they are ensuring that you would not have Purchase Protection available to you in the event that the item is not received or not as described.

 

A Friends and Family payment is intended to be a gift, and not payment with expectation of the receipt of Goods or Services in return. I strongly recommend not complying with the request to send the payment as a Friends and Family payment. If that means that you would be unable to do business with this merchant, that is also a fairly good indication that the transaction was of questionable legitimacy.
