"We're initiating closure of your PayPal account" - but why?

I received a mail today from paypal saying that, "After a thorough review of your account, we're initiating the closure of your PayPal account in order to protect us from potential financial losses. You'll no longer be able to use PayPal account."
What potential losses?? I only use my account to be able to occasionally purchase goods on eBay and send money to friends. I assume I'm paying all the required fees. How can paypal possibly lose money on that? It doesn't make any sense. Has anyone else had the same problem?

I have the same problem. I'm also using Paypal for payments, mostly to Steam. The email seems legit, the sender was [removed] (edited as the message service wont allow the actual email address)
Trying to use PayPal's resolution center is useless since it just brings up the following message:
"You can no longer use PayPal
At PayPal, we value a safe community for our customers to do business. We noticed activity in your account that’s inconsistent with our User Agreement and we no longer offer you PayPal services."
There was no notice or due process prior to this. In fact, I was able to use PayPal the day before I got the email.

Welcome to the PayPal Community! I'm sorry to hear your accounts have been limited recently. Normally, if your account has been limited, you would see steps in your Resolution Center to regain functionality of your account. However, since it sounds like PayPal has made the decision to permanently limit your accounts, you would no longer be able to use PayPal's services.

I can't use Paypal anymore! This is insane! I've only ever used the account to privately buy on eBay and send help to friends. It's not a business account, so how can I possibly hurt anyone??
