Return and refund process

Hi PP community, I bought an item from a guy on the Discord marketplace server. The item has some missing parts and is not in good condition like the seller's description. He accepted the refund and asked me to send the items back for him first then he gonna refund the full amount back for me after he receive his stuff back. Should I follow him and send the item back or open a dispute with PP? How long does it take to have the money back after PP reviewed the case? The payment was made with gns option. Also, do I have to pay the return shipping fee back to the seller?

It’s your call. It is possible for a return to be unsuccessful with either method.

PayPal encourages buyers to work to resolve things with seller first and that would be fine but you never know whether seller follows through or not. Then if the seller does not follow through and you open a dispute, PayPal can and have turned around and say, “Well, a dispute wasn’t opened with us in the first place.” if the return goes pear shaped somehow. Return can also go bad even though you facilitated return through PayPal dispute say, if seller doesn’t accept delivery of return.

It depends how fast each party (including PayPal) responds, plus return shipping time and the actual time the funding source takes to post your refund. PayPal tries to resolve cases within 30 days but it can take longer than that depending on the specific circumstances.

Yes, you would be responsible for return shipping generally unless seller agrees and follow through with providing the funds to you or issuing a return label but it is best that you buy the postage so you have proof of delivery and a valid return shipping address is assigned to the return label although the return address PayPal provides if you open a PayPal dispute could also be invalid if seller is pulling tricks but at least it is the address PayPal provided.
