I am receiving money from a friend in the US and I’m in the UK. She has said there is a few of £80 before the money gets sent. Is this right? I haven’t used PayPal a lot before so unsure how this works

Hello @MattT1989

Welcome to the Community, and congratulations on your first post!

I'm sorry to hear about the fee your friend has mentioned. You, as the recipient, should never have to pay an upfront fee to receive money. If you're receiving a Goods & Services transaction, then PayPal will asses a fee after you receive the payment to enable your Seller Protection. International transactions may also have an additional fee, but they're automatically applied. You can learn more about fees on our Help Center here: What are the fees for PayPal accounts? If someone is sending you an international Friends & Family payment using a credit or debit card, they may be charged an additional fee with the money they're sending. If this is the case, I recommend they use a bank account rather than a card. If you do not know the person well, I also recommend referring to this Help Center article: What are common scams and how do I spot them? Unfortunately, there are a lot of people out there who are trying to get others to pay them a fee first when it isn't something that's required of the recipient.

I hope this information helps, and please stay safe!
