Random payment received

I just received a payment for a sale, but I have no idea who the person is and haven’t sold anything recently. The funds are currently ‘on hold’. Is there a chance this could be a scam, or is it more likely that someone transferred the funds to the incorrect email? I’ll be contacting PayPal first thing on Monday to cancel the transaction, I’m just wondering if I should be worried? Thanks

Personally I would wait till the funds were off hold (21 days) and then issue a refund MINUS any fee that you incurred as paypal do not return the fee you were charged on receiving the funds as part of any refund made.

I would also email that person and ask why it was sent / was it a mistake and state what you are going to do.
