PayPal allowed seller to authorize more money than allowed…

I ordered from a website and was scammed. The email confirmation I received from this website was for $59 that I agreed to pay for items via PayPal. However, I found that my card had been charged $80. In communicating with PayPal, they said I authorized this. I clearly did not. PayPal closed my dispute stating they didn’t find anything suspicious. I can’t even refile a dispute so I’m trying to appeal. Why would PayPal allow a seller more money than I had initially authorized??? And is it even worth fighting with PayPal on this?? Seems like they’re right on board with this scammer. Just frustrating.

Hello @Ylor89

Welcome to the PayPal Community! I'm sorry to hear you've run into some issues with a recent transaction. I'd be concerned as well if I saw a different amount than I expected post to my funding source. Did you have a negative balance on your PayPal account? If so, the negative balance would most likely have been collected along with that payment. If not, please feel free to reach out to our Customer Support teams for assistance.

Good luck with this and future transactions,
