Need to pay an animator to create an animation. Can I make use of buyer protection if I get scammed?

I'd need to pay around 250$ upfront and another 250$ when the animation's finished.

In case I get scammed: Can I still get my money bank thanks to the buyer protection?

Welcome to the PayPal Community! I can understand how there's some confusion on what's covered and what's not covered for Purchase Protection. While splitting the payment into two different payments wouldn't change the coverage eligibility, the eligibility would depend on the item you're purchasing and the potential reason for the dispute. I would recommend first reviewing the following section of our User Agreement for PayPal's Buyer Protection.
