Is this a scam? I received a very small unsolicited payment.

Hi folks, I just received a very small (£0.90) unsolicited payment.  I'm wondering if this is somehow the start of a scam, although I can't see how it might work.  I wondered if it might just be someone making a mistake when they specified which account to make the payment to, but 90p is a ridiculously small amount for anyone to pay for anything.  I don't recognise the name of the payer.  The money is showing in my Paypal account.  I have updated all security details on my account, just in case.  I don't want to instigate a refund yet, in case I am falling into the scam trap.

I do understand your concern with this. It is possible that someone may have sent this payment to you by mistake. This can happen from time to time. As you have changed your password, your account would be secured. 

I would suggest you refund the payment back to the sender. Refunding the payment will not affect the security of your account. By issuing a refund, you are preventing the sender opening any disputes/chargebacks against you. 

To refund the payment, simply follow the steps here.

I have the same issue, but I have received 26 of them since September and have refunded them and blocked further transactions with the person. But they keep coming, from different people each time. I'm really tired of it.
