Case for faulty item closed in my favour. Now seller wants the item back. Do I have to return it?

Hi all.

I bought an item on Facebook and (fortunately) insisted on paypal payment. It turned up and was faulty (as in completely borked!). I reached out to the seller who ghosted me. I tried a few times then raised a case in Paypal. The seller also didn't respond to Paypal so the case was closed in my favour and I received a full refund.

Case closed.

Now, over a month later, the seller has suddenly got back in touch and asked me to return the item. He claims Paypal are requesting it though the only thing I've had from them is the following message in the message centre (and this only arrived today, coincidentally when the seller reached out!). I've redacted personal info.

Dear NAME,

This is a courtesy email regarding PP-R-AJP-474557829. The seller is requesting to have his item back since the refund was processed already. Kindly send it to ADDRESS. You can also do email correspondense (sic) to seller at SELLER EMAIL

Thank you for your time

Yours sincerely,
Richard

Am I right in thinking this is just the seller asking for it, especially given the typos and dodgy grammar, not an obligation?

The way to find out is to contact customer services to confirm whether that message is officially from one of their fellow employee or did the seller send it.

https://www.paypal.com/uk/smarthelp/contact-us

Scroll down to click “Message Us” or “Call Us” option on the bottom.

Or reach out to PayPal at Facebook or Twitter:

PayPal on Facebook

PayPal on Twitter

As for having to return it, not according to ruling of the claim, however do as your conscience dictates.

Kudos & Solved are greatly appreciated. 🙂
