Buying from a person on Facebook am I protected?

I wish to buy a item listed on Facebook market place. They are too far away to collect in person and asked would they post by recorded delivery? They accepted to post by courier ‘DPD’ Would I be protected by PayPal if the item does not arrive or wrong item received? As this is just a private person on Facebook. The item is a coffee machine costing £450 plus the p&p 17.49 Because of the cost of the item is from a private seller and not from a business. Again worst case scenario are you protected still if the person happens to ‘disappear’ and not make any contact after payment has been sent to them? or sends nothing? Or receive empty box? etc! It’s just a thought that I don’t know if someone has the opportunity to scam? And sadly I don’t know what to do if the worst case scenario happened. Just usually I buy from companies and never tried private sale before? If the worst case scenario happened would I be protected or not? Thanks Payment be made with Credit card going through PayPal payment

That depends on many factors all listed in Paypals buyer protection policy for you to read so you can risk assess your transactions.
Legal (bottom right of Paypals pages) > user agreement > buyer protection.

However make sure you pay using the goods/services option OR pay an invoice or money request FULLY describing the item you are purchasing.

Do NOT use the friends/family option.
