Account limitation

I received the following notification from PayPal or at least it seems to be from PayPal: that I can no longer use PayPal services and that my account has been suspended due to misuse of the user agreement. And that they will be holding my money for 180 days and then at that time they will email further instructions on how to pick up my money. I don’t know about anyone else but I opened this account because I heard a lot of great things and after having the account for approx 45 days this happens and I know I did not misuse any of my user agreement. Besides I thought when things like these happen you get a detailed explanation and not some pre typed letter that is sent to everyone saying sorry Charlie.... I can’t reach anyone on the phone to try and get this resolved. Any ideas how I might resolve the problem quickly and or how to reach a live person At PayPal who can help me resolve things quickly with my account? I just seem to go round and round on the phone and get ultimately told PayPal didn’t have anyone at this time to help assist me with my problem. Any help would be appreciated to get me in the hands of a live person.... Your truly... frustrated

Hi All,

Do some research PAYPAL is going under.

After months of being sent in circles I rang the PayPal Australia 1800 customer service number again and got through.  I was on hold for about 20 minutes before I got through to a foreign call center and spoke to a representative. I will say he was not very customer friendly after I explained the issue of my account being limited for no reason and what do I need to do to rectify the problem. I was told that I can no longer use PayPal as my account has a high level of potential risk and PayPal can no longer offer me services. (I have had no money taken from bank accounts or credit cards to even suggest my account is high risk). I asked if the account can be deleted, he said no because it is permanently limited and I can’t open another account because they keep my records and anything with my name, address, email, bank accounts and phone number will be blocked and refused to open any future accounts.

I asked if they could email me an explanation and he stated that he doesn’t have the option to email me. I told them that someone has the option because I keep getting emails and text messages from them wanting me to verify my identity to rectify the limitation in their resolution centre, which I have already done only to be sent in circles. I asked to speak to a supervisor but was told I would get the same answers, after insisting on speaking to a his supervisor he went away briefly and came back to tell me he would put me through but I would be on hold for a while as the supervisor had a waiting list of callers. I was on hold for about five minutes (no on hold music or recorded messages like earlier) then it hung up on me.

PayPal has major issues!

PayPal does not want to rectify any problems or admit their wrong doing for virtually stealing thousands if not millions of people’s money. I’m just lucky I don’t have any money tied up in my account like many of you with the same problem. I can only say good luck to everyone trying to get their own money back.

Lastly, does anybody know of any secure alternatives to PayPal that work in Australia?

@Mick72

Their profits are soaring so hardly 'going under'.

As for limitations they never give you a reason, high risk can be anything from selling high risk items to acting in a high risk manner ie selling and accepting friends/family payments OR lots of disputes etc.

They do not give you a reason as it would be pointless anyway if you are permanently banned.

Normally you get your funds back after 180 days as long as the account is in your legal name and you are over 18.

Unless you have violated their acceptable use policy in which case they can confiscate those funds, can get you that link if you need more info.

This is exactly whats happening to me right now. I've used it since 2004 and I've never had this problem before, it's super frustrating and disappointing.

Hi, Do you think a suspended account can be reactivated in case no claims are made within 180days period. I had one of my accounts broken into five months ago and card details were stolen from it. Both my accounts are treated as fraudulent and as result my two accounts got suspended as well as my partner's. Have been banging ma head against a brick wall for more then five months.

This has got to be the dumbest solution to a problem I've ever seen. I literally hadn't touched my Paypal account for more than a year and suddenly I'm told I violated their user agreement? HOW?! Just kicking people off your platform willy nilly doesn't seem like a good business model, but what do I know.

Hi, I’m writing to make a complaint on the closure/restrictions of my paypal account(s). I’ve been using PayPal for 6 years up to today, transferring up to 50k per year via your platform between selling goods, purchasing goods, sending friends and family money etc. last month my PayPal account was “permanently Restricted” due to me being underage when I made my PayPal account 6+ years ago, but that did not stop you from allowing me to continue using your service day in and day out for the duration of the time I’ve held my account. I was advised by the PayPal customer service member of staff to create a new email address and create a new PayPal and everything should be fine. 2 weeks after making my new PayPal, the same problem arises *shock* I have spoke to 3 different members of staff passing me around from one back manager to another, who told me they can not give me the reason of the suspension for security reasons. I finally got somebody who spoke some sense and he told me there was 2 reasons for my new account closure one being I was underage when I made my first account and two I have made a Violation of acceptable user policy of PayPal (no specific violation). No specific violation? Is this a joke? Starting to sound more like a scam the further I get deeper into this mess. As a rule abiding PayPal customer for the past half a decade I deserve answers. I will be making formal complaints to all relevant people/platforms because this service is disgusting!

Did you get any resolution? My account was also blocked by Paypal since July 2021. They said it would only be for 180 days but that was December 2021 and it's still blocked. Hoping you may have received a resolution. I think it's disgusting that they can steal people's money like this. Hope some big shot billionaire can sue the pants off them!!
