Case closed despite escalating within time frame

Hi I received an item totally not as described and which also didn’t work. Opened a dispute and wasn’t happy with the sellers offer of 30% discount or send item back at own cost for full refund as I’ve done this before for seller to say they didn’t receive the return. I got email from PayPal to say it was the last day before case was closed unless it was escalated which I did at 4.30 pm on that day. Now I’ve received notification that case has been closed and on £30 odd out of pocket. The item in question was an absolute scam and not fit for purpose. Where do I go from here.

You must have run out of time in between the time paypal sent the email and the time you tried to escalate the dispute.

You had up to 20 days from when you opened the dispute to escalate it to a claim so why wait till the last hour?

Unfortunately it can't be re-opened and you can't open a second dispute for the same transaction.

If you funded your paypal payment via a credit card you could see if they will chargeback for you?

It was actually my hubby who ordered the item as a surprise for me and I was helping him to get a solution. We were waiting for a response from the seller which only came yesterday - the last day to escalate the case. Surely the last day is up to 12 midnight and the case was escalated within the allowed time frame. PayPal emailed him to say he’d received a response from seller and then a short while later he got an email to remind him it was the last day to escalate the case which I did within a short time of him receiving the reminder. Anyway thanks for your response

You don't have to wait for the seller to respond, as long as you have given them a reasonable amount of time ie 7-10 days then you can go ahead and escalate.

The 20 days times out at the same 'time' you opened the initial dispute.
