I opened a dispute with paypal due to recieving damaged /not as described goods through ebay , the seller refused to refund, the resolution centre then found in my favour and asked me to return the goods to the seller for a full refund inc postage. I returned the item to the seller 2 days later and recieved confirmation through ebay from the seller 4 days later that they had recieved the item and i could now claim my refund through paypal. Paypal gave me 2 choices, add a tracking number for a refund or cancel the dispute, i added the number from the post office reciept as this was all i had and a message saying the seller had recieved the item back, 2 days later i get a mail from paypal saying the tracking number i supplied was unvalid and the dispute is now closed. I am now out of pocket for an item i do not have and postage both ways, seller has been an nightmare from the start and is not helping.

When paypal find in your favour they always tell you to send the item back trackable to the seller, without it they only have your word the seller got the item back.
Its the same as when you file for item not received from a seller, if they don't have proof of delivery then paypal find for the buyer.

I am unaware of this process, so you are telling me that even if i had mistyped a digit on my tracking number ( if i had one) i would still not recieve a refund ? Cant beleive this has happened , i have almost 800 feedback at 100 % and this is a supposedly new seller with 1 feedback and its obviously not their first ebay acount going by the amount of hassle ive had. I have a confirmation email from the seller telling me they have recieved the item back ! Does this go for nothing ? Is there no way back here. your help would be very much appreciated. Thanks

You should have had an email from paypal stating to send it back trackable.
When you say post office receipt then do you mean you did not send it recorded or registered?
If not then that is the only thing paypal decide on.
But surely if the seller confirmed receipt of item they would offer you a refund?
Why not contact the seller and say that as they now have the item would they process a refund.
If paypal have closed the dispute that is the end of it as far as they are concerned, no tracking number = no refund.

Seller has been a nightmare from day one and has been mud slinging. I just checked through my mails, i submitted proof of postage on the 29th of may which i thought was all i had to do, i immediately recieved a mail from paypal saying thanks and they would pass on the info to the seller and once they had confirmed they had recieved the item i would get a refund. Then this morning 2 days later i recieved the mail saying the tracker was invalid and the basically that was the end of it . This has only gone on 10 days in total, im seething , it seems paypal has contacted the seller and the seller has lied syaing they had not recieved the item even after emailing me through ebay confirming they had recieved it. I refuse to let this go and will fight it all the way. Any other help or avenues would be greatly recieved. Thanks again

Hi there rodtheprod,
Welcome to the community!
If you feel the case hasn't been closed properly, you can of course appeal it. There is some information on doing this here
