I am buying something on line and the seller uses paypal.me. I supposedly have their link, but cannot get it to be recognized. How do I pay them?

Tell the link owner to turn on their PayPal.me link in their PayPal account settings (cog icon). If the error message is:
"Sorry!
We can't find that PayPal.Me profile. Either it doesn't exist or it was disabled by its creator. Try checking the link's right."
It happens. Hit the "Login to Ask the community" button to create a question for the PayPal community.
