Zettle never processes chip cards, always "transaction failed" (tap function works fine)

I have a Zettle reader 2. The first one I received a year ago was faulty right out of the box, never worked and was replaced by customer service. The replacement worked mostly fine for the next year ish but today only 2 out of 26 transactions actually worked with the chip reader and those only went through after failing a few times first. It always gives an error, usually "transaction failed" or sometimes network error or other errors. The tap function worked fine and that's how I had to process all other transactions. I never had this much trouble with PayPal Here, what gives? Using Google Pixel 7a, android 14, zettle reader 2.
