PayPal Fund Security Alert In Reference To Account Limit

Hi all,

I am looking for some advice.

I sold an item and the buyer requested i send a payment request via PayPal, which i did. PayPal will not release the funds because "the status of my PayPal account is not a premium/business user account which makes your account limited to certain amounts and this pending amount seems to be above your limit, which will not make us credit your account until you expand your account limit" I do use PayPal frequently but to purchase rather than receive funds.

PayPal has now asked that i request an additional amount from the buyer, which is a higher amount that what the item was sold for. The buyer sends this amount via PayPal. I then have to do a bank transfer for the same amount to the buyers requested bank account and send a screen shot to PayPal and they will pay both the original amount and the additional amount to me. I find this VERY suspicious and am not sure if this is genuine or fraudulent. I have tried to contact PayPal but due to the ongoing Convid 19 crisis they estimated a 2 hour wait time.

Has anyone else come across this or am i about to fall for a massive scam?

Hi @KilltedHaggis,

I can confirm that the emails you've received are fraudulent. PayPal will never ask you to request an additional amount from the buyer or make a transfer to the buyer's bank account.

Check this article to see how you can recognise a fraudulent email and what to do next.

Hope this helps!

Naya
