Refund

We booked a cruise online and then realized the dates wouldn’t work so we canceled. The cruise line said they would refund in 7 days(which they did) but I didn’t have the money in my PayPal acct to cover so it pulled from my bank acct. for some reason my bank acct kicked it back. Well the cruise line did refund but it like 5 payments so it was really weird and it didn’t match the original payment. The total matched but it was one big payment to match up to the original Payment if that makes sense. I got an email and they are going to try and take the funds from my bank acct again in 3 days?! It was a refund how do I get that click between the two acts. It seems I have trouble all the time my bank acct being connected.

Hi @BeTween02,

Thank you for your post. I'm sorry to hear about the confusion regarding the way that a refund is credited when a bank-funded Instant Transfer payment is declined by the bank.

In an Instant Transfer payment, if the bank account declines the payment and gives the reason of insufficient funds, the system will automatically retry the payment a few days later. If a refund is made by the merchant, it will not stop that action, as that action is automatic based on the response received from the bank.

When a refund is made for a bank-funded Instant Transfer, the refunded money is held until the transfer completes from the bank for the original transaction. This is because the transfer from a bank takes a few days and may, as in the case of the transaction you described, not actually come through from the bank.

If the funds come through on the second attempt, the refund will be credited back to your bank as soon as they settle from the initial transfer.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

Olivia
