Once the refund has been issued / completed it will automatically go back to your bank account or card. Paypal say allow 30 days but I have never waited longer than a week for mine, however that varies country to country.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.

In the UK its nearly always about a week, but may be longer in other countries dependent on their bank transfer times.
But to be fair its not paypal that is 'hanging' on to it, they release it as soon as they have it.
Transfers from bank accounts (either when you pay or when a seller refunds from their bank account), are never instant, that is why when you buy something paypal credit the seller upfront for you and paypal take the wait for the funds to transfer to pay them back again, this is so you get your item without delay.
However with a refund they don't refund upfront so you are the one that has to wait for the sellers bank to clear the funds > paypal > you.
Takes 5-7 working days in the UK to transfer as Paypal use the slowest (cheapest) transfer option and is why they credit the seller upfront BUT funds normally leave your bank account from a few hours up to a few days later. It goes via ACH in 'batches' so much slower.
As for the wait when you receive funds that is normally the 'new seller hold' and doesn't last that long.
And again if you have a pending 'withdrawal' then if you have withdrawn funds the second you received them then its paypals credited funds you are withdrawing so sometimes paypal puts on a 72 hour hold to allow the bank transfer payment from the buyer to play catch up.
