Payment Hold Email - REAL OR FAKE?

Hi there,

I have recently sold an item through Gumtree and requested payment via PayPal.

I have received an email from "<removed>" saying that my payment is on hold.

Is this a real email address?

I can not see that the payment is on hold in my PayPal account - should I be able to see it there?

I need to post out the item as soon as but I am tentative in doing so until I can confirm that the payment is legit.

Thanks,

Ubayd

READ THIS AND SEE IF IT FITS.

SCAM.

They encourage you to accept a 'direct' Paypal payment and may ask you to send the item internationally.
No funds or activity of the transaction shows in your Paypal account and any emails 'may' go into your junk/spam folders.

You will get/got a "fake" email that looks as though it is from paypal.....it isn't because they don't actually have a Paypal account and have no intention of paying you.
It will say the buyer has paid ...you won't have been paid.
They will tell you that the payment is released when you provide paypal with a tracking/shipping number......this won't happen.

Paypal NEVER tell you to send an item before the payment is showing in your paypal account.
Paypal do not tell you to send trackable, they advise it for selling protection but it is not compulsory.
Delete any emails and ignore the scammers.

Kudos / Solution appreciated.

Hi I hope you can help me I’m kinda new to PayPal and believe I have been scammed this way and have only just realised two days later 😔received the email that funds are on hold on my account and that if The money was to be cleared quicker the customer will have to put a tracking number for the parcel and then the money should be taken off hold the weird thing is I created a secure link via PayPal for the person to send money in which I received the email straight after and they have used my email address on there to send me the email which I now see how they get away with It but out of my lack of knowledge this is not the case and I’ve now sent trainers worth £170 to an address in Birmingham is there anything I could do or should I just count it as a loss surely with proof of the house address they went to and proof they got delivered something can be done hope you can help many thanks
