PayPal Not Permitting Bank Payment

Have used Paypal a limited number of times without issue.  In trying to make a payment today from my bank (bank info has not changed) account Paypal response is:

We are sorry, but we could not complete this payment, because it has been denied by the card issuer. Please retry with a different card or funding option to continue with the payment.

Please advise.

You need to ask your card issuer why they denied the payment.

Thanks for your response...I am sorry I did not specify this was a payment directly from my checking account at my bank not a credit card.

So why would paypal say this?
