I have some money in my PP account i dollars. If I want to use these to pay for an item bought on an american website (in dollars) will the payment automatically be taken from the funds I already have in my account, or will they be charged to the visacard that is connected to my account?

The primary currency of your PayPal account is the default payment currency unless you choose to use another currency. You should go in the Payment Method' section and click Change. So, you can select the currency you would like to use.
