Card denied but I have the money...

I was denied both by http://battle.net and GameStop (at the store, not online) tonight. I've had and used paypal debit cards pretty consistently for something like 4 or 5 years and never had this sort of issue.

Anyone have any ideas?

1. Do you have a positive paypal account balance?

    1a. If you do not have enough money to cover the purchase in your paypal account balance, and no backup funding           source set, it will be denied.

2. Do you have any pending transactions on your debit mastercard?

    2a. If your pending transactions exceed your maximum limit, you must wait for these to clear.

3. Do you have a back up funding source set for your debit mastercard?

    3a. If you have a backup funding source selected, and a positve paypal account balance, nothing should ever be denied.

In perfect timing for the holidays, I had (still having) the SAME problem.... I have a few hundred dollars in my acct, I always have money in my acct, and suddenly while buying gifts... DECLINED!!! Gotta love paying all those Paypal fees just to walk away from a great sale withOUT gifts the day before Christmas!

WISH i could figure out what happened... Makes ZERO sense!

I'll update if I get to the bottom of it but until then, at least you're not alone in ur frustration!

I was able to use my card the 24th which was great getting last minute gifts.  The 25th I went to get cash out and it declined.  So naturally I tried to contact paypal with no luck.  I  could not use it for anything it caused most of the day to be wasted. I could not get gaThere was no way I saw to remove the hold that was on there for no clearly defined reason.  So now on the east coast I have to wait around half the day to speakl with someone to use MY MONEY this coustomer service issue really needs to be addressed.

I am on a mission to help people with this issue.  Here is what I recently posted about this – see if it might be your problem.  “Tonight was the second time this same thing happened to me and I practically killed myself trying to remember how I solved it last time.  What I had to do last time is call paypal and talk to a couple of useless people that gave me misinformation before I finally got ahold of someome who knew what they were talking about.  The reason your card didn't go through is that it is a credit card and although paypal says enter a credit/debit card number, it really tries to run the transaction as a debit card.  To solve this, there is a very small link in the payment confirmation page that says something about "funding sources."  Find that (I think the link is in blue), click on it and scroll to the very bottom of all the inane information they have there.  At the very bottom, they have 2 buttons where you can choose to either make the transaction as a debit or a credit card.  Choose credit card and then OK or whatever.  Continue with the transaction and it should work fine.  WHY DO THEY HAVE TO MAKE IT SO HARD???”  Good luck!  Please reply to let me know if this worked for you.

I am having the same problem. I cannot pay my phone bill because the card keeps getting delcined.

I made sure to leave plenty of money in the account OVER what I was paying on my phone bill--still it was declined. This problem has now caused my phone to get turned off on the 3rd. Thanks a lot PayPal.

Yup, just had the same problem at the store trying to buy food. Selecting credit or debit does not work. I have a $0 paypal balance BUT I have a verified backup source (my bank account). There is money in my bank account.

My current backup limit is @ $1000 with $992 available.

Everything looks OK to me but I am still being declined.

Good to know it isn't just me. I'm about to stop using the Paypal Debit Card. This is rediculous.

yes i am having same problem i have money in pay pal account and i go to take out cash and its declined and it says contact financial institution and then i  go to pay for gas at the pump picked credit and debit card denied then i go in the store and it cleared so i dont know works when it wants to the costomer service is good after you have 2 wait 2 hours for someone to respond it **bleep** when you go to buy something and its declined at a store they look at you like you crazy please work out problems with debit cards because i woud love it if it worked smoothely i hate going to buy someting and wondering if its going to work or not
