Hello, I am selling my iPhone and received an inquiry via a Face Book buy & sell page. The person, a John Williams asked for my WhatsApp number and then started communicating with me. We agreed on price and then told me that he wanted to pay me via Pay Pal. I know of the service but he insisted that I register for Pay Pal which I did. He asked for the name that I used to register as well as the e mail address that i used. I gave him this and he then told me to look in my Spam folder where I saw a POP message. He then said that Pay Pal will call me to get my banking details but that I should read the POP properly. The POP states that Pay Pal will pay me when I send them the tracking number of the courier I used to send the iPhone to the buyer ? Can this be correct ?

SCAM.

They encourage you to accept a 'direct' Paypal payment or open a Paypal account and may ask you to send the item internationally.
No funds or activity of the transaction shows in your Paypal account and any emails 'may' go into your junk or spam folders.

You will get/got a "fake" email that looks as though it is from paypal.....it isn't because they don't actually have a Paypal account and have no intention of paying you.
It will say the buyer has paid ...you won't have been paid.
They will tell you that the payment is released when you provide paypal with a tracking/shipping number......this won't happen.

Paypal NEVER tell you to send an item before the payment is showing in your paypal account BALANCE.
Paypal do not phone you for your banking details, you do all that online in your paypal wallet.

Real Paypal emails do not go in your junk folder.

Paypal do not tell you to send trackable (they reccommend it for seller protection) but its up to you and is not dependent on funds showing in your paypal balance.
Delete any emails and ignore the scammers.

This “John Williams” is a busy man, if the number he is using to WhatsApp you ends in 0277, it is the same guy...
