I have a standard account which means I don't have funds preloaded. But paypal says I can purchase by using the credit card option. Why is this safer than just using my credit card without paypal?

Not necessarily safer but it paypal keeps your card information secret and you don't have to type in your card details every time you pay online.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.
