Suspicious email

On 1st July I received an unsolicited email supposedly from AVG saying quote "Unfortunately access to your PayPal account has been blocked, renew your details"

I have been trying to send a direct email to PayPal but all I can find are general 'popular' questions. There does not appear to be any way of contacting PayPal (like a lot of other huge corporations) to send a direct email with a specific question i.e. Is this a genuine PayPal email? My security provider suspects that this is a fake email/scam.

Can ANYONE FROM PAYPAL MANAGEMENT advise if the email was genuine.

Regards,

CapnDave

Firstly..............

If its a spoof, DO NOT USE ANY LINK.

If the email/ text addressed you as ''Dear Member'' / ''Customer'' / ''Client'' OR your ''email address'' then that confirms its a spoof as paypal would address you by your full name eg Dear John Smith.

If there was a link OR attachment in that email to ''cancel'' the transaction or ''confirm'' any details then again it would be a spoof.

If there was a problem with your account paypal would not ask you to click on an unsafe link in an email or by downloading an attachment, they would direct you to log in normally and go to the resolution or the message centre for more information.

Ways to contact Paypal customer services.

1. You can click on help / contact and use the message centre option in the blue band at the top of the page (or the very bottom of the page dependent on country).
2. You can click on help / contact and use the phone option in the blue band top of the page (or the very bottom of the page dependent on country).
3. You can send them a personal message via their Facebook page @ www.facebook.com/PayPal
4. You can send them a personal message via their Twitter page @ AskPayPal for Twitter
5. You can use the message centre in your paypal account.
6. You can ask a question on here (answers from community members normally).
