Scammed

I found someone on Facebook Market Place selling pants that I wanted and they said to buy through paypal so I paypaled them the money and did it through the market option so I could get purchase protection but they told me to buy it trough the friends and family option so they refunded the money and I resent it through that option and then they blocked me on facebook once they got the money and I have no way of getting it back. They scammed me. I tried calling paypal but only a robot would answer and I do not know how to get my money back.

They scammed me and said the first payment did not work so they gave me a refund and then they made me pay again and they blocked me on all social medias. I was buying pants from them from Facebook Marketplace and they said to purchase it through the friends and family option on paypal so there would be no purchase protection and now they have the money and they won't send the pants I bought from them. The listing of the pants are still up and marked as available and I had my friend message them asking if they can buy the pants and he said yes but I sent him money for the pants previously. He scammed me and the worst part is, is that the pants were supposed to be my birthday gift from my Dad and he used his own money to buy the pants for me, and it hurts because my poor Dad lost money because of me.

A friends / family (or gift payment) is intended as a transfer of funds from family or friends to one another. For this reason, there is no processing fee when payment is made with bank or PayPal balance.
However as it is a gift payment, there is also no Buyer protection as no goods or services should have been exchanged.

If he was not a close mate or family member you should never use that option as it enables the seller to evade paying his paypal fees and negates your buyer protection at the same time.

You would also not be able to open a dispute apart from one citing an unauthorised transaction but that would be automatically closed as you did authorise the initial payment.

Be careful as using that option for purchasing goods is against Paypal rules and can lead to account limitation.

If you funded your paypal payment via a credit card then contact your card issuer and see if they will help you but unfortunately they may decline as well as it was a gift payment.
