My wife has just been hacked. The hacker hijacked her SIM card and used her phone account (SMS confirmation) to change the password of her paypal account. My question is: can an app authentificator be used instead of a SMS (I am using such an application to connect to my account, but what about password recovery) ?

Hi @
Welcome to the community forum and thanks for posting.
I am sorry to hear that this happened to your wife. You can use an authentication app as a login verification.
Here’s how to turn on 2-Step Verification:
- Log in to your PayPal account.
- Click the Settings icon next to “Log out”.
- Click Security.
- Click Update next to “2-step verification”.
- Choose to receive a text or use an authenticator app, then click Next.
- Follow the prompts to link your phone or authenticator app.
- Set up a back-up method in case you can’t access your primary cell or authenticator app.
- Click Done to activate 2-Step Verification.
I hope this helps,
Rachael
