I Think PayPal is Ripping Me Off on Fees?

I've started freelancing for a company on a regular basis and they pay me weekly through PayPal. The company is American and I'm based in the UK. When they pay me, PayPal automatically takes $7 dollars out of a $120 dollar payment, which is already more than the 3.4% they should be taking. However, the exchange rate is massively off, meaning on top of that I lose another £3/$4. That's basically an hour of work I'm doing for free because of PayPal. I've asked the company if they can pay directly into my account to avoid the fees, but the guy who handles my invoice says he isn't allowed to do it. I've already sent an email to PayPal complaining, but does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on why they're taking so much? I'm really frustrated.

Why don't you add the PayPal fees and the exchange rate fee to your invoice, so you are not out of pocket
