Have been in business for many years but never used credit card payments. A client has asked to pay using VISA. This is a rare occurence and not likely to happen again or if so not often. Can I use my personal PayPal account to accept a payment? Or would I have to open a merchant account?

I think you can use your personal account ,to accept business payment and pay PAYPAL 30 cents plus 2.9-4.4 %/
you know new seller could have the payment withheld until you prove delivery with an online viewable tracking from commercial carrier .
if you plan to do this on a regularly basis, then better open a business account.

you know there are buyer and seller protection, your buyer could file item not received if there is no online tracking proving delivery, you lose.
someone just posted they repair equipment, customer comes to pick up the item and months later file item not received.
