Transfer to wrong account

I attempted to transfer money from my PayPal account to a bank account. I set up the bank account and after a day or so the system allowed me to start making transfers. After I had attempted to transfer $800 I did not see any of the money in my bank account. I called PayPal and the service rep said that the account had not yet been verified and he would do so now. After a few seconds the rep told me to wait a few days and the money would start to show up. That was back in Sept and this is now Nov. I have contacted PayPal and they said it was not their problem as the money had been successfully deposited and no problems had been reported. They suggested that I contact the bank. I did and they said it was not an issue they could resolve. After a few more attempts at Paypal I was told the account number where the money went, my account is <Removed> and the account number where the funds were deposited was <Removed>. I contacted my bank and they could still not do anything to help me. I contacted PayPal again and thought I had some help as a dispute was entered into the system. The dispute came back as before, no problem found. At this point I am out $800 and I don't even know what to say any more. Anyone have a similar situation that they were able to resolve???

Seems odd that you can add / confirm and withdraw funds to a bank account that you do not own??

If the account belongs to someone else then the bank surely can reach out to that person and request that they return the funds..they can't force them to I appreciate but they could ask.

If the account number did not belong to anyone then the funds 'should' bounce back 14 days post withdrawal (approx).

Paypal is 'country specific' so advice often depends on what country you are in. As you have not added your country to your community profile or said in your post then we can't help at the moment.
