Hi. I wanted to add funds from my bank account, but I can't because it requires additional verification. First of all, there is no way that I will give out my personal information due to all the crazy internet things out there. I don't want to give out sensitive info due to security reasons. Although adding funds from a bank account takes 3-5 days, I prefer this method because I don't know any store that sells a Moneypak card. I'm steamed that this is happening! I never had any problems before this. -___-*
I want this fixed.

Thx for the info.
But to get a taxID I will/could never use later and just for this "verification"?
It makes no sense to me anyway.

I have had the same problem as that described by all of you below. In trying to communicate about it with PayPal, I succeeded only in getting my account restricted, which means that I cannot even close it in protest. That's okay. When my funds are all spent, they will have an open account with zero activity, zero commerce.
I have tried emailing eBay also, just to convey that due to this new PayPal practice, I will no longer be willing to make purchases on eBay. Perhaps if enough eBayers complain, eBay can exert some influence on PayPal.
But alas, it appears that communications with eBay are not read by real human beings either, just bots that generate automatic replies.
Farewell PayPal, farewell eBay. May you be watched over by machines of loving grace.

After using paypal for several years and hundreds and hundreds of transactions, I tried to ADD money to my account today and was asked to provide by fax my SSN - a photo copy of the actual card. Why? Does anyone know.

Of course this has to happen to me, right when i'm about to add funds to buy stuff. Thanks a lot Paypal.
Why do they even need this anyways?! Amazon and other places don’t require a photo ID of me to buy things from it. Paypal is the 1st, and I’m not happy about it.

This is SOO frustrating, and these people are obviously too stupid to do anything about it. No joke, I got so **bleep** off earlier today that I hung up on paypal "customer service reps" on 3 different occasions, and its all over this bull**bleep** SSN issue. The worst part about it is, I just put $150 dollars on my account earlier today to make a purchase off ebay, and now my account it "limited" because of this SSN issue, so I can't do anything with my money. All I get is a run around with these people on the phone. This has put a VERY bad taste in my mouth about paypal in general, I haven't used it much in the past, and I don't think I'll be using it much in the future either, although I want my **bleep** $150 back. Absolutely ridiculous is all I have to say, what a stinking joke.
Needless to say, I'm not very happy about the situation.

I'm not a lawyer, but I would suggest that if it is true you can't withdraw money from your account then it's time to sue PayPal. A class action suit, perhaps?

Same thing happened to me and I've been trying to search for ways around this with no luck. Thankfully I only keep $2 in there until I want to make a purchase, so no big deal if I lose it.
Paypal is CRAZY if they think I'm going to give them my SSN/Driver's License info. That is exactly what identity thieves need to ruin your life! So when the Paypal servers get hacked (and I'm sure they will sooner or later now that hackers know what a treasure trove of information they're holding) millions of people are going to be **bleep**ed. I don't want to be one of them!
I guess my time selling on eBay is over since they don't allow any other forms of payment (because they own Paypal and want to doubledip on eBay fees AND Paypal fees). If I want to buy something I'll ask if they will accept something else like Googlecheckout or a Money Order. Annnoying.
Paypal is SOOOOO LAME to expect people to do this!

I suddenly find myself in the same boat as the rest of you.
I'm not a seller, just an online buyer and have been verified for years. Suddenly I go to add funds and they want to verify my address. I go to check the status of my account first, and POW: now they want Photo ID and SSN#.
I thought they had verified all these things when I started the account.
So, in the spirit of fair play, I send over a copy of a bill with an address first. Simple enough, but it's still in progress more than 12 hours later. All questions emailed came back with automated emails.
Banking hours are 9-5, 5 days a week. My personal credit card is 24/7.
PayPal appears to be "When it's convenient for us".
Is there a bigger issue that I'm not seeing here? I've never had problems before so I'm wondering if PayPal is in some sort of CYA mode or have they changed policies (I don't recall getting a "Change of Terms" email this month)?
Has anyone provided Paypal with the requested info and how long did it take it to actually resolve? I guess I could break down and run my license and SSN in the scanner and send it all over, but I'm still in limbo as to why I need to
do it again in the first place.
The only people they are managing to alienate are their customers and Ebay.
I love the idea of PayPal. I'm just not currently "in love" with PayPal at the moment.
