concerned about giving out info

Hi. I wanted to add funds from my bank account, but I can't because it requires additional verification. First of all, there is no way that I will give out my personal information due to all the crazy internet things out there. I don't want to give out sensitive info due to security reasons. Although adding funds from a bank account takes 3-5 days, I prefer this method because I don't know any store that sells a Moneypak card. I'm steamed that this is happening! I never had any problems before this. -___-*
I want this fixed.

Have you personally been a victim of these hackers? I have not, nor have the several people who uses paypal for acceping payments.

Have you personally been a victim of these hackers?

Yes, I have.  Twice.  I've had my PayPal account hacked twice.  They are not as secure as you would like to believe.  This is precisely why I refused to give them the information they were demanding, at least without a very good reason.  And they wouldn't give me one.  Had I been willing to give the information they required, a third hacking could very well have yielded not only money, but everything the hacker needed to steal my identity.

I use PayPal only reluctantly, because I have to have it to sell patterns on Ravelry.  Were it not for that, I wouldn't consider Paypal secure enough.  Frankly, I prefer a brick and mortar bank where I can go speak to a real person.   It took FIVE TRIES and a lot of angry words to finally get an "access code" that allowed me to talk to a real person at PayPal.

After the first hacking, I went to my brick and mortar bank and did precisely that - spoke to a real person.  I walked in the door, stopped at the customer service desk, and was directed to the person best able to solve my problem.   They suggested setting up a separate account not tied to any of my other accounts, and keeping almost no money in it.   That way, a hacker can't get to my main accounts.

It's a hassle, but it's working.

Get off your high horse.  Just because you personally haven't been hacked, nor has anyone you know, doesn't mean it hasn't happened.

I am not sitting on a high horse, every time that I call paypal, I speak to a real person. I have been using paypal for almost two years. I also sell items, but on the ONLY website that I know to be safe which is Ebay. They are strict, but they keep their buyers and sellers honest, which means all of the people who refuse to do business the honest way flood all the other selling sites on the web. I am NOT saying that you are selling your patterns on a different site bacause you are not honest enough for Ebay, however, I am saying that there are way too many dishonest people on the other sites for me to deal with.

If you hit the CONTACT US link for paypal, they autamically give you an access code now, like I said, I have been using them for almost two years, how their system was before that I don't know, however, I do feel safe that paypal is protecting my personal information.

Dude. I was hacked before and I had to close my old account. All of my paypal balance and the bank account amount vanished. omg. I had to open 4 dispute cases AND have the bank put a lock on the bank account to prevent thieves from cashing their eChecks.

Have you been hacked? IT'S NOT FUNNY AND I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT YOU WOULD TRUST PAYPAL TO SECURE YOUR ACCOUNT! Paypal is so easy to be destroyed by hackers these days.

I never said it was funny. The ony time I have ever been a victim of fraud was when someone got ahold of my debit card number.  I shut down all cards. For the past four years, I only pay with cash, or a check. Online, I only use paypal.

I'm probably jumping in the middle of the conversation but has anybody found a solution that satisfied PayPal and their requirements but at the same time made you feel safe with the (personal) details they had to provide?

What I did was download my monthly statement of my verizon bill, and uploaded it to the proper place on the paypal page asking for it (if you can;t find it, just call paypal and they will help you find the page). The statement  had my phone number that is on file with paypal, the last four numbers of my bank account, and my full name. Paypal was happy with that amount of info and unlocked the limitations. Later, I gave  them other information but it was not required. Hope this helps

I have not gotten to the point of calling these folks ... just sending emails and filling our their webforms. I even reported their own website to them as suspicious.

If I have an excessive amount of time to dedicate to this I will try to call and give them my birthdate over the phone.

I have no intention of giving them a copy of my Social Security card, Driver's License or a bill form my residence!

I am a buyer only and I don't think they really need this info from buyers ... more than likely they are looking for folks who aren't paying sales taxes.

same here. There's no way in **** that I would give out my SS number. There has got to be another way. Maybe I'll try like that guy with the verizon bill did. ****! Eventually I might cave in and do one of these things >.<
