Cannot access account - cannot authorize as phone number is old

This is ridiculous. I try to access my account with correct username and password, but authentication is needed. The only way I can authenticate is via text or a phone call - however the telephone number on my account is old so I cannot authenticate.  There are no other options to authenticate either.

So I click on the help section, but to access any help (message, call or email) I need to log in.  I cannot log in, because I need to authenticate!
I persevere however, and find a telephone number through Google to call PayPal. I am met with an automated system that, after me telling them my problem, the automated voice says they are unable to help me over the phone, and hangs up.

I finally reach out via Twitter (@askpaypal) as I am at a complete loss.  No response there either.

So: I cannot contact any help via email, message service, telephone. I have funds in my account that I wish to access, but cannot log in due to this insane authentication process.  Any help is appreciated.

My PayPal credit account won’t accept my phone number to authenticate so I can add a new bank account to make my payment. But the number is on my PayPal account and authenticated. Been trying for over a week!!!! So frustrating, at a loss. Even tried a friends number and it said the same thing!

You are not alone! I’ve been locked out of my account since July for the same issue. When I call PayPal, the only department open is collections. Apparently I owed them $6 and they made a huge deal about it and couldn’t seem to comprehend that I couldn’t log in due to my phone number being changed there for not being able to receive the verification code text. I’ve spoken to so many different people and finally someone took my payment to clear up my account over the phone because they said before they could update my phone number my account must be at a zero balance. Tried calling back and someone actually asked if I could contact my old cell provider to obtain the code because she didn’t know how to update the phone number on my account. I’ve been completely mind blown at the lack of knowledge and willingness of their “customer service”. I’ve since created another account (not sure if I’m actually allowed) because I pay my rent via PayPal and had to have access to send money! I’ve even asked to cancel the one I’m locked out of but haven’t had luck with that option either. It’s so extremely frustrating and there are LOTS of people with the same issue.

Try:

1. Downloading the app to see if it will let you in to change / update it in the settings.

2. Use the forgotten password option several times.

3. Trying another browser that may let you in without phone verification (then change it when you have logged in).

4. Trying again another day when sometimes you can get in without doing the verification and then change the number.

5. Changing the password a few times sometimes works as it can bypass the phone verification.

If that does not work then you would need to contact customer services so that they can i.d. you another way and then add your new phone number to your account.

Contact options for Paypal are accessed by clicking help/contact bottom left of Paypal pages...

1. Paypal phones are slowly re-opening and increasing in numbers (you can use the guest option if you can't log in).
2. Live chat is also randomly available.
3. You can send them a message, during business hours you may also be able to message whilst logged out.
Or
4. Have you considered contacting Customer Service via Facebook or Twitter?
You can send them a personal message from their Facebook or Twitter pages.
It's: https://www.facebook.com/PayPal and @AskPayPal for Twitter.
