Damaged PayPal card reader

Hi all,

After having a reader for a year and not used it I finally decided to get it out of the box and use it with clients. I've charged it up and now theres an error message 'Damage to reader detected. Contact PayPal".

I know its been stored safely and therefore not damaged. What will happen next? Will they replace with another?

I had the same issue....

I purchased a Paypal card reader, didn't use it for a while and it stopped working. When I called the customer service centre I was told it was because it hadn't been updated and I need to throw it away and buy a new one. I find this ridiculous - not only a waste of money but terrible in terms of waste/ecological sustainability. Have tried emailing and messaging but everything is automated and I get nowhere... 😞

I use my reader for one day a year at my sports event. Two years of working no problem, getting ready for this years event and received email from PayPal advising of an update and it needed to be updated to work.

Plugged it in to charge it and got the same error. So PayPal, how can an item used and working, put away safely and stored for 9 months suddenly stop working! This is either a firmware or hardware issue and for something that has been used for less than a total of 10 hours in its life is a very poor reflection on you as a company in what you sell to people, and secondly, the expectance that people can just throw it away and buy a new one really does not support good customer service.

I am appalled at the standard of response, customer services and attitude of you as an organisation.

Yes, this is bad service. I payed for this so I should be still able to use this still...even if I haven't used it for a while... Will Paypal replace this for me with a free updated one? or refund my purchase? I'm dissapointed I can't still use this. Well done Paypal... You even disabled my Paypal here account without question... Very poor service from Paypal...
